The Ness County Board of Commissioners met in regular session
Monday, June 5, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Room. Chairman Sandra Y. Rupp called the meeting to order with Commissioners, Mark Davis, David L. Albers, and County Clerk Renee S. Kerr in attendance.
Minutes of the May 30, 2017 meeting were read and approved.
Motion: Upon the motion of Davis, seconded by Albers, the Commission voted unanimously to go into executive session for a period of 10 minutes beginning at 9:07 a.m. for the discussion of nonelected personnel. (Albers, Davis, Rupp and Kerr in executive session). Regular session resumed at 9:17 a.m. No decisions were made.
County Health Department Administrator Shelly Pavlu RN-BSN and Office Clerk, Sheridan Schaben filed monthly reports. Federal grants were discussed. The Commission agreed that Pavlu purchase special masks from federal grant money for the amount of $2,682.00 with federal grant money. The Health Department and hospitals are purchasing from the same vendor, so that supplies will be interchangeable.
The summer lunch program for children was discussed.
Road and Bridge
Road and Bridge/Landfill Supervisor Ron Johnson and Assistant Supervisor L.D. Ochs filed weekly reports.
$474.00 was received in tipping fees May 23-27, 2017.
240 yards of sand and 420 yards of rock was hauled to roads last week.
Road conditions were reviewed.
Machinery maintenance was discussed.
Johnson recommended that the tower generator be serviced by County Personnel.
Motion: Upon the motion of Davis, seconded by Albers, the Commission voted unanimously to rent a backhoe from Foley Equipment for one month for the amount of $2,768.00.
Emergency Preparedness Director Travis Rothe reported on his activity in his department, Noxious Weed and Farmer’s Market.
Sheriff Bryan Whipple filed his monthly department reports. Whipple and the Commission discussed hourly wages.
Nadine Lampe of Arrowhead West and the Commission discussed the services that they provide. She presented a budget request for 2018.
County Appraiser Kelly DesLauriers and the Commission discussed education and meetings for Appraisers, and small claims hearings.
DesLauriers requested that Savannah Lira be hired as a temporary clerk to help with field work. The Commission agreed to the request.
The following change was made to the 2016 tax roll: Real Estate: Abate-$412.48 and Oil $289.90.
Accounts Payable checks and vouchers were reviewed and signed.
County Attorney Kevin Salzman announced that the delinquent tax sale will be July 26, 2017 rather than July 3rd as previously scheduled. Salzman and the Commission discussed road and bridge closures, as well as a potential road requested by a landowner who feels they are landlocked.
