The Ness County Board of Commissioners met in regular session Monday, April 11, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in the Commissioner’s Room. Chairman
Jay Harris called the meeting to order with Commissioners, Sandra Y. Rupp,
Frederick P. Flax, and County Clerk Renee S. Kerr in attendance.
Minutes of the April 4, 2016 meeting were read and approved.
Clyde McCracken met with the Commission regarding sidewalk replacement west of the Sheriff’s Office. Chairman Harris and Mr. McCracken viewed the area to be replaced.
Road and Bridge
Road and Bridge /Landfill Supervisor Ron Johnson and Assistant Chelsae Braun reported on the weekly work schedule and introduced Dylan Rowlett an new employee in their department.
$580.00 was taken in at the landfill as tipping fees March 29-April 2, 2016.
1,340 yards of sand was hauled to roads last week. A Construction Permit was issued to Adam Showalter. Permits are on file at the Road and Bridge Department. Road concerns were reviewed. Machinery maintenance was discussed. Tire bids were reviewed. Grader Tire bids (per tire) are as follows:
(12) 14.00R24 Michelin XGL A2-Holly’s LLC, $1,161.68; Kansasland, $1,036.56; Dumle’s West Side, $1,220.47; Allied Oil & Tire Company, $1,046.56.
(2) 7.5R25 Michelin XTLA -Holly’s LLC, $1,371.62; Kansasland, $1,261.67; Dumler’s West Side, $1,415.86; Allied Oil & Tire Company, $1,271.62.
Motion: Upon the motion of Flax, seconded by Harris, the Commission voted unanimously to accept the low bids from Allied Oil & Tire Company.
Johnson suggested rebidding tractor tires being brand specific due to inconsistency in the bids. The Commission agreed to the suggestion.
County Economic Development Director Anthony Roy filed his activity report for the past 2 weeks. Roy worked on an Initiative to prevent and reduce underage drinking grant, worked on the 501C3, made changes to the website, helped set up a legislative coffee, attended the Ness City Council meeting, attended a meeting regarding GPDI for the City of Ransom, and finished Food Service Site Application.
Alejandra Juarez of Blue Cross Blue Shield met with the Commission regarding renewal times and general questions.
Sheriff Whipple introduced William (Bill) Sutton, a new employee in his department,
Appraiser Kelly DesLauriers introduced Dylan Schlegel, the new office clerk in her department.
Values for ag land and oil were discussed.
County Attorney Craig Crosswhite and the Commission discussed upcoming court cases, an unpaid bill to Ness County, an issue with an auto gate, and food programs
Accounts payable checks and vouchers were reviewed and signed.
The meeting adjourned at 12:50 p.m.
